Congratulations to the ringers of Mt. St. Alphonsus in Limerick on the 150th anniversary of the laying of the Foundation Stone of the bell tower.In the run-up to the weekend of 19th to 21st June there were multiple streams of publicity including flyers distributed locally; radio and TV interviews and local press articles.
The result was some excellent ringing by locals and the many (UK) visitors and a over-subscribed open-house where neighbours and the wider city community made the rather daunting climb to the Mt St Alphonsus ringing room, where they learnt the history of the tower, and tried ‘the ropes’ for themselves.
