July 2022

June 29, 2022

Updated 16th July 2022

Following a hectic June, July will be a little more calm!

Eastern District Practice is on Saturday 9th July in St. Canice’s Cathedral, Kilkenny. 2pm to 5pm

Southern District Practice is on Saturday 16th July, also in St. Canice’s Cathedral, Kilkenny. 2pm to 5pm

On Saturday July 30th Waterford Christ Church Cathedral will be celebrating the 150 year anniversary of the bells.

The first peal to be rung in Ireland happened in July 1872, as documented on the peal board in the ringing room.

Waterford Ringers would like to invite ringers from other towers to visit Waterford and ring with us on Saturday 30th (from 11am), and we are particularly inviting ringers who can participate in a quarter peal on that day.

If you would like to attend, please phone or text Richard de Courcy on 086-3220428; if you would like to take part in a quarter peal, please contact Torstein Strandenes on email: TorsteinStrandenes@outlook.com or text message to 085-7438385.

We were very sorry to hear of the passing of Edmund White (Hillsborough) following a long illness. He is sadly missed by all ringers who were lucky to have met him. His obituary is here.  We are also sorry to here of the passing of Harry Crompton  (St Columb’s Cathedral, Londonderry).  Harry will be sadly missed by all his ringing friends.  His Obituary is here.  We are also very sorry to read of the passing of Bob Cooke of Union Hall, Cork. He was one of the team of Rosscarbery ringers who came together following the restoration of St. Fachtna’s Cathedral’s bells. Always a pleasure to meet and to ring with.  Sadly he had to give up ringing when he became ill some years ago.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Bob’s family at this time.

The installation of Rev. Cliff Jeffers as Incumbent of Ross Union of Parishes and Dean of Ross will be held on 17th July at 4pm in St. Fachtna’s Cathedral Rosscarbery. Ringing is being organised by Di – please contact her if you plan to attend and would like to ring.

A future date for your diary – the annual IACR Ringing Festival returns and will be hosted by the Northern District. Dates are Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th October 2022.

Please check the IACR website regularly, www.bellringingireland.org for more information or updates on upcoming events as ringing events in Ireland recommence, as well as updates to the Learn to Ring section.
