The Irish Association of Change Ringers

125 years ringing in Ireland

April 2022

March 30, 2022

As the Covid-19 restrictions start to lift, we hope that we will be able to get back to more ringing throughout 2022. We ask that you keep a regular check for up-to-date information on the Association website.  As Service Ringing and Practice nights have started in some towers, we ask that you keep a check with your tower contact for local arrangements.

We are sorry to hear of the loss of Tom Marsden from St Mary’s Cathedral, Limerick on Tuesday 15th March 2022 and we extend our deepest sympathy to the family circle.   A stalwart of yesteryear and one of the “instigators and developers” of method ringing in Limerick. Tom was one of the ringers that rang the 1st peal exclusively by a Cathedral band. That was on 18th March 1956 – it was 5040 changes of Plain Bob Doubles, in 3 hours 16 minutes.

The District Annual Meetings for 2022 will all be “in person” the first time in 2 years.  First up will be the Eastern District meeting which will take place on the afternoon on Saturday 9th April 2022 in St Audoen’s Dublin after the Lindoff Cup.  The Northern District meeting will take place in St Mary’s Kilmood @ 11am followed in the afternoon with a Fun Competition.  And finally the Southern District Meeting in Bandon on Sunday 24th April 2022 followed be the RR Cherry Cup.

It is also hoped that the Association Annual General Meeting with Covid permitting, will be an in-person meeting in Dublin on Saturday 28th May 2022 @ 11am. Normally we would have the annual Murphy Cup Competition but there shall be none this year and it is hope that this can re-commence in 2023, this year in the afternoon there will be some 6-bell ringing in a local tower.

A future date for your diary in 17th -19th June 2022 a Ringing Weekend in Cork to celebrate 150 years of the Cathedral 1870 -2020 and George Roberts ringing master of Cork who passed away in January 2021.

Please check the IACR website regularly, for more information on the Annual General Meetings and updates on upcoming events as ringing events in Ireland re commence.
