Saturday 30th July 2022 the Waterford team hosted ringers from the 4 corners of the island to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the ringing of the first peal in Ireland.
On Tuesday 9th December 1873, 5040 of Grandsire Triples was achieved in 2 hours, 50 minutes. While the group were IACR members “for the day”, they were all members of the Ancient Society of College Youths.
A welcome from both the Dean of Waterford and the Mayor of Waterford preceded 2 hours of ringing. While the hoped-for quarter peal was postponed until a later date, a plain course of Grandsire Triples was scored as a tip to the first peal!
When ringing was finished, all were treated to a generous lunch featuring both savoury and sweet items.
Big, big Thank you to Richard and Torstein for all the organising, and to the Waterford catering team for the banquet.
