Northern District AGM and Fun Striking Competition
Kilmood – Saturday 23 April 2022
Fun Striking Competition
Normally on the AGM day we would run the Cunningham Cup as a formal striking competition. But since we have all been out of practice for the last couple of years, we thought it would be best not to run the formal competition. Instead, we will have an informal fun striking competition. This is how it will work:
Everyone is welcome to take part no matter your abilities. We will sort everyone out into mixed teams, so that you will ring with people from other towers and with different abilities. Each team will have a few minutes to practice or warm up and get used to the bells before they ring their “test piece” which will last for about 4 or 5 minutes. I will be in the tower and will call some call changes – each team will get the same 12 simple calls. The treble and tenor will not be affected by the calls, only the inside bells.
Outside the tower, we will have an official judge who will listen and grade the ringing. Anyone is welcome to join the panel of judges to help judge as few or as many of the performances as they want. This is a great opportunity for you to learn a bit about how listening and judging and rating the ringing works.
At the end, the results will be announced. This is not a real competition, there will be no prizes. The judge’s remarks are more about feedback on the ringing, and all of us learning from getting structured feedback.
The aim of the day is for us all to get together, have some fun, ring with people we don’t usually ring with, and for everyone to help each other to learn more about good striking and improving the standard of ringing for all of us.
After the AGM, we hope to re-start the normal District Practices. We plan to hold the next one at Dundela on Saturday 7th May.
